GovDelivery Privacy Policy


Q. What is GovDelivery?

A. GovDelivery connects over 70 million people like you with accessible, relevant, and important government information. We strive to make the information you receive both convenient and valuable every day.


Q. What information does GovDelivery collect? How is that information used?

A. GovDelivery collects personally identifiable information to the extent you specifically provide it. This includes, for example, the information provided during registration to receive subscriptions or notices related to a document provided by one of GovDelivery’s clients.

GovDelivery also stores your personal subscription preferences. Some organizations that use GovDelivery may also request other information to better communicate and meet your needs. You may also be asked to protect your subscriber profile information with a password. GovDelivery never shares personally identifiable information with third parties for promotional purposes.

GovDelivery does grant select outside vendors limited and controlled access to this information. These vendors only use the information to enhance GovDelivery’s ability to deliver services to you and other customers; the vendors are bound to keep the information confidential. 

In most cases, GovDelivery’s clients using the service (such as governmental and public bodies) have ownership of the information and its privacy and use is subject to that client organization's separate privacy policy.

GovDelivery will share personally identifiable information with outside parties as required by law. GovDelivery uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt personal information before it travels over the Internet. SSL technology is the industry standard for secure online transactions.

Q. Why does GovDelivery collect this information?

A. GovDelivery uses your information to provide the services you request. GovDelivery never shares personally identifiable information with third parties for promotional purposes.

In most cases, client organizations using GovDelivery have ownership of subscriber information and the privacy and use of that information is subject to that organization's separate privacy policy. GovDelivery will also share this information with outside parties as required by law.

Q. What if I don’t want my information stored by GovDelivery for any reason or purpose?


A. If you have submitted information to an organization that uses GovDelivery and would prefer that GovDelivery not store your information for any purpose, you can delete your account, which will also remove your information from that organization. To do this, you’ll need to access your subscriber profile for the government organization whose emails you are subscribed to.

To do this, click on the link at the bottom of the email you received from that organization. The text of the link itself will vary depending on the organization, but it will likely read: Manage Preferences, Manage Subscriptions, Subscriber Preferences, or a label of a similar nature. 

Once here, you’ll notice links at the bottom of your subscriber profile. One of these links will allow you to delete your account. The text of this link will also vary depending on the organization, but it will likely read: Delete My Account, Delete Profile, or a label of a similar nature.

Click this link and your information will be permanently deleted from the GovDelivery service for that organization.

Q. What is GovDelivery’s policy on cookies?

A. GovDelivery utilizes session cookies to ensure seamless continuity between screens in a single session. Session cookies are not shared with other websites, do not track or store personal information, and expire as soon as the user closes the active browser.

Q. What is GovDelivery’s policy on collecting information from minors?

A. GovDelivery does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If a child has submitted personally identifiable information to GovDelivery and you would like it removed, you can follow these account deletion steps to remove the account, or please submit a ticket at the bottom of this page and we will be happy to assist you.

Q. What is GovDelivery’s policy related EU Safe Harbor policies?

A. GovDelivery abides by the EU Safe Harbor framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding collection, use, and retention of data from the European Union.

Q. What steps has GovDelivery taken to ensure accessibility?

A. GovDelivery has taken several steps to ensure that public facing pages used by our clients are fully accessible. We have enlisted the services of an independent third party who has conducted independent tests and audits of all our forms. We have also implemented their advice to ensure our forms meet and exceed Web Content and Accessibility standards (WCAB 2.0). GovDelivery is very proud of its ability to meet the accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
